Westward ho! – BC Disc Golf Championships Thu, 14 Sep 2017 05:48:34 +0000 We’ve added a new little page to the ARMDGA site today. It’s just to help those poor BC Donks, as they don’t have the internet, or maybe it’s something to do with fires. I don’t know, I just know that if you’ve got an old dial-up modem I might know a guy who needs one in Kamloops.

There is a pretty good group of ADGTour players representing Alberta out there this year. ARMy members Noah Higgins, Jeremy Sproule, Casey H, Derek Jennett, Jake Witt, Bogdan, EJ and Lobo will be making a real go of it this weekend. Follow the scores this weekend to see how we all do!

Alright, go on. You’ve got to get yourself ready for the Eagles Landing pop-up event Wally is hosting this weekend. The link will take you to a Facebook group called Disc Golf Evolution, it’s the Edmonton region disc golf group, because something something club group is whatever. Oh, Alberta. Regardless, Wally has a whole slew of fun planned for this weekend up there this weekend.

Whew, so lots and lots and lots and lots more.

We’re getting things together for a pretty special weekend, folks. There is little time between now and the start of the event so I’ll keep this short.

Here is the schedule as it stands.

Q: Are you mixing the AM divisions and the Open divisions on the first round?

You bet we are. So all our Amateur divisions will be mixed together to make the first round on Green pads super fun. Our Open divisions will also be intermixed to provide some early communal fun, disc golf is serious business though, so stay sharp out there.

Q: Green Tee Pads?

We’ve developed a set of alternate tee pads for the Amateur divisions. These tees are shorter, but you’re still in the mountains folks. It’s still going to be challenging, and you’re walking the same distance. Feel free to underestimate these tee boxes. Lobo thinks you’re all champs though, so he’s organized some hot round prizes for you to battle for.

  • Hot Round – Advanced Divisions (MA1/MM1) – Kastaplast Prize Pack from Lobo
  • Hot Round – Intermediate and Novice (MA2/MA4) – Prize Pack – Strathmore DGC
  • Hot Round – Intermediate and Novice Women (MA2/MA4) – Prize Pack – Lifesport

Only your Green Tee pad rounds count towards this Hot Round Competition! Here is when you’re division will be playing them

  • Novice Men (MA4), Intermediate Women (FA2), Novice Women (FA4)
    • All three rounds from the Green Tees
  • Intermediate Men (MA2)
    • First and third round from the Greens, Second round from the Regular tees.
  • Advanced Amateurs (MA1) and Masters (MM1)
    • You’ll be joining the rest of the amateur division on the first round from the Greens. Your Second and Third round will be from the regular tees.

Q: Wait, so how does the Ace Pot work then?

Due to the fact the Open divisions *won’t be throwing from the green tees, it puts the Amateur divisions at an advantage for the Ace Pot (we’ll see). We agree that it’s more likely there will be more dingers from the Greens, so we’re going to split the Ace Pot into an Amateur Ace Pot, and an Open Ace Pot.

No aces? We throw-down CTP styles. In the event neither of the pools hit an ace we’ll shoot a full field CTP for the combined Ace pool.

  • 1st – 50% pot
  • 2nd – 30% pot
  • 3rd –  20% pot

Q: I’d like to donate to this wonderful tournament of awesome-sauce because, wow, do I ever feel like being super awesome.

We’re pretty accommodating. We’re also pretty good at appreciation. Feel free to bring any items you think might be a nice raffler, CTP prize or the like.

Q: What the h*ck is Lil’ Bear?

Lil’ Bear is our Mini Disc tournament that will be held after Round Two on Saturday. We really had a great time with this at the Alberta Open, and Mark Dakiv is out Mini-TD.
We’ve got serious prizes from RPM Discs, Island Disc Golf, and Lifesport. Sign up on Saturday!

Q: So where is my lunch?

Feast-ival of Eats Meal Ticket holders will receive their meal cards when they check in. Again, just so there is no mistaking, only those who pre-ordered will be fed at the ARMy mess this time around. We are not able to sell food onsite. Valbella Gourmet Deli, Nesters Market Banff, and Natural Way Chiropractic have come together to help us keep our lunches delicious and nutritious!

Q: I ordered a Battle Tag, what the h*ck have I got myself into?

30 ARMDGA Battle Tags were sold. You’re the cool people that are going places and are probably going to win Big Bear because you had the foresight to know that battle tags are going to be awesome. Good for you. We’ll have more on the BTags later.

Q: Did someone say there was a Registered Massage Therapist on site Saturday

Yes! We’ve got  Registered Massage Therapist Lucie Milisova on site from 5pm-8pm Saturday. We’ll be holding a Lunch time drawing for the 7 available slots. You’re raffling for time slots, so you win the slot you win. See us when you sign in on Saturday for tickets.

Q: Friday Doubles?

Yes, there will be Friday Doubles. See the schedule for more information. We’re going to draw cards and set teams and starting holes in no time flat. $5 buy in. Show up for 5:30pm, the round starts at 6:00pm.

Q: Bear Spray?

Oh yes, definitely Bear Spray. Please review this to become just a little more Bear Smart. Trail Sports, the lovely little Sports shop across from the Day Lodge is our Bear Spray Sponsor this year. We greatly appreciate their contribution to keeping our players safe!

We’ll continue to add to this growing list of FAQs over the next few days.

Q: Whatever happened to Bosstroyer?

Nevermind, you all never read my emails.

More updates to come. Keep your eyes opened.

Small Bear – Update Sat, 29 Jul 2017 17:40:39 +0000 Come Bear Prepared

rawr before the RAWR! We’ve got a really easy breezy day planned on Sunday. You show up, we send you out. Please come Bear prepared, as it’s berry season in the region, and really… you should always be Bear prepared if your in Canmore. That said, we’ll have extra Bear Spray on hand to send out with each group – Matt has a really good demo set up with props and a puppet to help educate you on Bear Safety.

You don’t have to be in Canmore for 9am. This is a flex start event, meaning you can come when you like and play with who you like – there just needs to be a minimum of 3 people and a maximum of 5 people on each card.

  • You can show up anytime after 9am to start your round.
  • Last card goes out at noon.

Prize outs – CTPS etc

We’re going to determine if meeting around 2:30pm will work, or if we want to do prize chits with True North Disc Golf. We’ll take a poll when you all get here.

We’ll have some fun divisional CTPs, and the more people we have come out the more those we’ll have.

Disc Swap

We’ve all got plastic that’s wasting away in our bins. Bring it out and see if you can strike a deal with some of your fellow disc golfers. Keep it to the parking lot if you can, folks.

Day Lodge

The Day lodge will be open all day, please try and utilize their facilities if you can. The Fresh Tracks Cafe makes a pretty terrific burger, but there are lots of options over there. The Day Lodge also features a number of washrooms, a water bottle filling station, and showers!

Why Small Bear

This event, at it’s core, is a preview event for the Big Bear Classic XIX. It also serves as a fundraiser to help us offset some of the costs of hosting an event at the Canmore Nordic Centre.

We also value your feedback. Let us know what you think of the layout. And most importantly bring Lobo birthday cake and HAVE FUN!

See you out there Sunday!

Matty, All you points are belong to Lobo. Sun, 02 Jul 2017 14:06:49 +0000 19601302_10155595121983969_7161176261195728393_n
Lobo took it to Leon and Wally up in Grande Prairie for his first MPM win. It wasn’t the best golf we played, but we really loved the Thrill Hill DGC.

Great job Grande Prairie! Ron Rudy Falconer and Dylan did a great job with this spot.

Big Bear Classic XIX Fri, 09 Jun 2017 14:34:50 +0000 You might all think you know what’s going on, but you don’t. You’re thinking it’s going to be another typical Big Bear, but you’d be wrong. Don’t be sad. That just means it’s going to be an adventure.

The Big Bear Classic is normally a May tournament, and it will be again next year, but this year it’s in August. Right after Lost Egg, and right before Falcons Flight. So we’re the middle of the most awesome disc golf sandwich Alberta has to offer.

It’s not just going to be awesome, it’s going to be mega hella awesome. Don’t miss out.

Pre-registration opens June 15th. We’re capping at 72 people. We’re playing 60 holes over 2 days. We’re going to have activities in place on the Friday, so plan to get here early. We’re also going to have some non-player activities in place for your support team(Family), so let them know they are also welcome at the event.

We suggest people start looking for accommodations now, as it’s very busy in the Bow Valley in August. We’ll get you some ideas together for Wednesday, but it can’t hurt to start now if you know you’re coming.

If you’re a Canmore pal who might have room, let us know. If you’ve got space for people to park, that works too. Anyone of you who has an interest in joining the ARMy and doing good, reach out as well. We’ll take you. Let us know.

More to come soon.

Hello world! Thu, 08 Jun 2017 20:42:17 +0000 Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start writing!

AO AO AO ZZZZ CLINIC ZZ YYCFIT Thu, 11 May 2017 08:05:18 +0000 That was pretty terrific. You can’t begin to appreciate just how great it was to have everyone out last weekend. We’ve been spending so much time trying to relax we’ve realized that we’re falling behind on our updates. You might understand why in a moment.

We paid a visit to Lloyd Lake over the lunch hour on Tuesday to meet with some youngsters from the Red Deer Lake School. 40 of them actually. Conor and a couple of our pals, Darren Olsen and Greg Ratner, provided an hour of edumacation on disc golf.

We might take a break at one point, but not until after YYCFIT.

It’s madness. There is no coffee in this house.

May before the 4th be with you Tue, 02 May 2017 21:50:21 +0000 We’ve got exactly… almost close to only 2 days left before registration closes. If you’ve not already reached out to Lobo to make arrangements for payment on day of event you’re going to be missing out on one heck of an event.

We’ve also reached the soft cap of 72 people. So there are 18 spots left. All you late bloomers can step right up or get your gallery wardrobe ready.

There will be no extension of the course layout to accommodate any more than 90 people. So get to it.

I’m not going to tease anyone with the Raffles. It’s nuts, believe me I’m winning all of it, but buy tickets early and often anyway. I’ll also note that a short list of the main prizes will be available in your digital caddy book. I’ll be sending those soon after the 8:00 PM May 4th Cutoff.

That guy in the photo is a Jedi, or whatever Spock was.

As we’ve seen a HUGE increase in the number of side events and continuous BBQ from Lunch through to 6:30pm each night. So if you were planning on seeing Boss Baby at the cineplex during the evening, change your plans. We’ve got a Mini-Disc Tourney ala Mark Dakiv and a putting game bonanza from True North on Saturday. A huge Ring of Fire with Don’s Lifesport and True north pitching in some prizes on the Sunday just before the Awards while we deal with those Super Six tallies.

All the Calgary vendors will be on hand to show you their product and introduce themselves. Calgary has a vibrant retail community dedicated to disc golf. Come meet the folks supporting the growth of the sport. Deadly Discs is always near the tournament scene, so you’ll get to meet Wally as well!

Bring all your cool stuff so we can buy it. Any and all Alberta Club has the opportunity to bring their fundraiser materials to share with the province. So keep an eye out for those folks when you’re here.

We don’t anticipate a herd of people, but really, whoever changed the google address for Banff to be set to Lloyd Park is a genius. We might see tourist buses on the Saturday. Everyone follow my lead. I need all of you who can speak with an Australian accent to send me an email immediately.

Alright. I know you aren’t reading this. How about the first person to order a disc online before 6pm (MST) who is also registered for the event will get a bonus prize. Remember, first person to order a disc via the ARMory before 6pm MST. I’ve got a secret discount on flatops right now, but we’re plum out of gators, so cry me a river or talk to Hergott. He’s replacing all the donations he made at GBO.

If no one buys a disc by 6pm I’m not letting the ARMy BBQ staff put out the pickles. I realize I just cut my target audience in half with that threat.

More coming soon. I’m giving away to many secrets.
