Alberta Open ARMy

We have terrific friends. We want you to get to know them, because they support disc golf in Alberta and that’s pretty cool.

Double Ram Disc Design

This guy is a piece of work. He made our hot stamp and I suspect he probably made yours too, but different, and not as cool. Because we’re pretty cool, and you, well you’re okay we guess. We’re working with this guy all year, so you’ll see more from Mike from May through August.

Don’s Hobby Shop

Scott was running a Lacross Team, getting ready for ComicCom, packing for GBO and still helping with the prep for the Alberta Open. He also managed to get three AO discs signed by the Innova team (No McBeast, because he’s super special delicate flower I guess that only meets in a temperature controlled environment while not on the course) while he was in Kansas.

Like and follow Don’s Hobby Shop on facebook! They’ll let you know when cool stuff comes in and you can even make special requests before he places his regular orders!

Innova

Innova provided some pretty exceptional support. We know the majority of people have experience with Innova plastic so it seemed like a good fit with our first tourney. Frankly, I just wanted flat-top gators. I’ve got them now, we can all move on.

Rude Carts

Rudy V has been a part of the the Calgary Disc Golf scene for about as long as I can remember. He and his brother Pete were often out at Pierce Estate Park back in the day, which is where I saw my first Rudecart. There is a long and deep history with these carts and the craftsman involved. You can keep up with all the Rudecart awesome by liking his

Ex Libre

Sometimes you need nice things. Ex Libre makes very, very nice things. The artwork on these tees is beyond exceptional. These folks tap into a vast creative pool that consists of the most incredible illustrators in the known world.  The hats, tridents, come on! They’re adding new tee-shirt designs regularly.

We reached out to Brian Hoenger with PDGA Canada and asked if we might be able to reward our non-pdga Amateur winners with a free PDGA memberships. We’d like to introduce 4 of Alberta newest PDGA members:

It’s only a drop in the pond, but we’re really happy we could work something out with PDGA Canada! Join the PDGA!

Oak Tree Tavern

Oak Tree Tavern – You all met Shawn Conner, as he was the face of the Oak Tree and Village during the event. His brother Stu came on board early in the process and took full control over the Village sponsorship for us. It was nice not to have to manage all that while trying to assemble to bits and pieces required to run a tournament. Oak Tree is HQ ARMDGA and ADGTour south. If you like terrific food, classy beers, and a pub environment, Oak Tree Tavern is the spot for you.

Check their monthly event listings and try and tell me there isn’t something your interested in. Stu gives good pub. Like and follow the Oak Tree Tavern on facebook so to keep up to date on all the super fun stuff they do.

Village Brewery

Village Brewery – These guys. Wow. Super supportive and really hoping to be more involved in the ADGTour going forward. You will see them again at a disc golf event soon. I would have liked some of that India Session Ale (Maiden), but the Squeeze was great on the hot sweltering heat drenched day that was Saturday.

Like Village Brewery on Facebook so you can see all the terrific work they do in the region. They support a lot of cool stuff.

Twinbat Sticker Co

Twinbat Sticker Co – My pal Cory has something going on right now. He’s doing some of the coolest stuff for some of the coolest people. Be it rock bands, cool artists, or neato clubs. He’s making stickers, buttons, and other stuff awesome again. If you need anything done related to stickers, t-shirts, patches, buttons, banners, vinyl, or the like, he is your guy. He is not available as a metal drummer. He is all booked up, everyone look elsewhere. But for all that other stuff, he is available, when he isn’t doing my stuff.

Follow Twinbat Sticker Co on facebook and you’ll likely know first what is coming out of there for the ADGTour and ARMDGA going forward.

The Disc Celler

The Disc Celler – Zuka Bag Cart is currently part of the Battle of Central Alberta tourney Raffle, congrats to Dion for the lucky pull! Thank you, David Cowley, for supporting Alberta disc golf! Follow and like The Disc Celler on facebook, there is always something going on!

Harvey’s

Harvey’s – Imagine an ADGTour event without Harvey’s burgers and Swiss Chalet chicken dinners. You’d have to think back to when Howi wasn’t playing disc golf. Having that added value for our Raffle packs really helped us provide a nice finishing touch to a really awesome weekend. Thanks, Howi!

Raffle Prize Donations

We received quality donations from a number of individuals, Clubs, and businesses, but the lions share of those donations came from you. We truly appreciate all our pals who pitched into the raffle.

  • Daniel Martin
  • KDGC – Kamloops Disc Golf Club
  • Doomsday Discover Tour Disc Golf Series – Colin
  • Don’s Hobby Shop
  • Alberta Rocky Mountain Disc Golf Association
  • Bridge City Gunners
  • Strathmore Disc Golf Club
  • Deadly Discs
  • Leon Goodstriker
  • And more. Again, I’ll add more of these terrific people as soon as I can recollect.

Let’s talk about the main prizes, those were pretty sweet:

RudeCarts – Proto Golf Bag Cart –  Brenda Page took the lovely Rudecart home. Watch for a RudeCarts website launch in late June!
Disc Celler – Zuka Bag Cart –  is currently part of the Battle of Central Alberta tourney Raffle, congrats to Dion for the lucky pull!
Innova Basket – I can’t recall the fellas name who won this, but I’m sure his putting will improve considerably now that he’s set up! He was also strong like bull.

The ADGTour 50/50 was won by Serge, and I can’t tell you how perfect that is. Serge is a true Ambassador of the sport and a HUGE supporter of disc golf in Alberta. He got that lovely signed AO disc, 235-ish bucks, and another sweet disc I don’t want to remember having in the first place.

What it really means is that buttons and tags are covered for a few of the events! It also means the fella who showed up out of the blue (well, sort of, we know Serge well enough to know he never comes to an event to just hang out) to help make sure all the standings we’re up in a timely manner got a nice big karma payment. Or maybe it was just luck.

Ace Pot CTP/Ring of Fire

Ron Rudy Falconer and Carrie Neil set up and managed these two side events for us, and they killed it. What a great time that all was. Two aces on the AP CTP, including a ridonk Thumber skip ace ala KrisP.

All the local vendors pitched into the Ring of Fire. We had some fun out there and everyone got a chance to win.

We’d like to thank all our local disc golf vendors for pulling together to help make this a really terrific event. Kelly, Rory and Josh, we appreciate your contributions and dedication to the growth of this sport. Thanks for participation in the Alberta Open!

ARMy

This is the hardest part. The ARMy was all over the place doing. I know I’m going to miss a few people, but know it’s only because my brain has a bunch of Big Bear stuff in it right now. You know who you are and you know I appreciate all the assistance you provided, be it via consultations, labour, inspiration, or anything else. Here are the folks I really need to acknowledge:

FOOD

Bulgarian Auxiliary with Chris Sipko

Bili, Sventlana, Rumi, and Alex and the apple juice depleted Chris Sipko rocked the M&M Meats BBQ. Sipko also is now un-officially Bulgarian (you’ll need to have coffee with the gypsys before they fully accept you, Sippy). The BA brought us the awesome meat wagon on Saturday too!

Eddie Braybrook – Chestemere Landing

Eddie stepped up at the last minute and helped us provide some pretty delicious pasta salad for the Saturday Lunch. He thinks it’s no big deal, but it’s pretty awesome he could whip it up for us on a moments notice. Chestemere Landing is just a quick drive from Forest Lawn, and on route to Strathmore. So if you’re out that way stop in.

Final Note

Folks, this was an incredible experience for all of us at ARMDGA. We honestly appreciate all you making it out and making it awesome.

Please stay tuned for our next ARMDGA event Big Bear Classic XIX. – Pre-registration will be available very soon.
